Sons and daughters of elected political figures
Unlike kings and other hereditary monarchs, elected heads of state or of government do not automatically transmit their office to one of their children. Here are the very different careers realized by the bast known sons and daughters of western post-1950s heads of states or of government:
France: Amiral Philippe de Gaulle, former senator, son of 18th French Republic President General Charles de Gaulle and father of politicians Charles de Gaulle (Front National) and Jean de Gaulle, former député (UMP);
Henri Giscard d'Estaing, Chairman of the Board of Club Méditerranée (in short: ClubMed), son of 20th French Republic President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing;
Prof. Dr Alain Pompidou, French scientist and politician, 4th President of the European Patent Office 2004-2007, hon. MEP, son of 19th French Republic President Georges Pompidou.
Germany: Prof. Peter Brandt, a left-wing nationalist historian, one of the three sons of 30th Chancellor Willy Brandt;
Susanne Schmidt, London-based Bloomberg Television reporter, daughter of 31st Chancellor Helmut Schmidt.
Russia: Sergei Nikitich Khrushchev, Senior Fellow at the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, a key witness of the Soviet side of the Cold War; son of Soviet Premier Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev;
Lana Peters is the American name of Svetlana Alliluyeva, the daughter of Soviet Premier Stalin; she wrote two interesting bibliographies that describe her life in the Kremlin during her father's rule;
Spain: Don Adolfo Suàrez e Illana, politician, son of 73rd Prime Minister Don Adolfo Suarez y Gonzalez, Duque de Suarez, Grande de España;
United Kingdom: Ann Ashmond, née Sarah Spencer-Churchill, Baroness Audley by her 3rd marriage, actress starring opposite Fred Astaire in Royal Wedding in 1951, 2nd daughter of Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill;
The late Nicholas Eden, 2nd Earl of Avon, a minister in the Thatcher government (1983-1985), son of 1955-1957 Prime Minister Anthony Eden, 1st Earl of Avon;
David Douglas-Home, 15th Earl of Home, Chairman of private bank Coutts & Co and of the Grosvenor Group, son of 1963-1964 Prime Minister Sir Alec Douglas-Home and father of Lady Mary Elizabeth Douglas-Home, lead singer of electro-rock band Headland;
Hon. John S. D. Eisenhower, Ambassador in Brussels during the Nixon administration, son of 34th President General Dwight Eisenhower;
Susan E. Eisenhower, consultant, author, and expert on international security and US-Russian relationship, divorced wife of Roald Z. Sagdeev, former director of the Russian Space Research Institute and science advisor of President Mikhail Gorbachev; daughter of John S. D. Eisenhower, Ambassador in Brussels (son of 34th President General Dwight Eisenhower);

Ronald P. Reagan, a political commentator for the cable television network MSNBC and on Air America Radio (The Ron Reagan Show), son of 40th President Ronald Reagan by his 2nd wife Nancy Davis;
Michael E. Reagan, radio host (The Michael Reagan Talk Show) on Radio America, adopted son of 40th President Ronald Reagan;
Sarah Reynolds (née Chuldenko) is the stepdaughter of Jack Carter, the son and oldest child of 39th President Jimmy Carter; she is a painter who has worked for kitsch artist Jeff Koons who is known in Europe for his current Versailles Jeff Koons exhibition in King Louis XIV's palace, for the sale in November 2007 of his sculpture Hanging Heart at Sotheby's for 23.6 million$ becoming, at the time, the most expensive piece by a living artist ever auctioned, and also for her 1991-1998 marriage to Italian porn star Cicciolina (née Ilona Staller in Hungary), also a former Italian MP.
