After attending the Raphael concert last night in Madrid, Queen Sofia of Spain headed to the airport for a flight to Athens where her younger brother, King Constantine II is in the hospital, according to the Spanish magazine, Semana.
The former sovereign is suffering from pneumonia and pulmonary edema.
Although Constantine's condition is said to be stable, he is receiving oxygen to help him breathe.
Princess Sophie of Greece and Denmark married the future King Juan Carlos of Spain in 1962. They are the parents of two daughters, Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina, and one son, King Felipe V, who succeeded his father after Juan Carlos' abdication on June 19, 2014.
King Juan Carlos who has been living in the United Arab Emirates since August 2020 is not expected to leave his exile and visit his brother-in-law.
