Here are the week's best seller results of the top 5 bestselling books! NUMBER 1: 58% percent of top-5 book orders were for purchases of our newest book...ROYAL COLLECTIONS IV: THE GRAND DUCAL HOUSE of HESSE! To order click on this link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1944207082 When Arturo E. Beéche founded Eurohistory in 1997, he envisioned the creation of a library of royal books encompassing all of Europe’s ruling and formerly ruling dynasties. Two decades later, and after more than 30 books and over 120 issues of Eurohistory, the royalty journal he founded in 1997, we bring you The Grand Ducal House of Hesse. This is the third German dynasty that Eurohistory publishes a book about, the first two being the Ducal House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and the Royal House of Bavaria (Volume I). This project is the culmination of more than two decades of research conducted by the authors. Beéche having already cooperated on several books and articles with Ms. Miller, a regular contributor to Eurohistory, pairing for another collaborative project was seamless. The Hesse and by Rhine Dynasty is one which Ms. Miller, better-known for her extensive work on the four daughters of Grand Duchess Alice of Hesse and by Rhine, with particular interest on Victoria Milford Haven, also feels passionately about. The result of years of research in Europe allowed Ms. Miller a unique insight into the lives of these four tragic sisters. The storyline begins in 1567. This was the year when the sons of Landgrave Philip "the Magnanimous” divided his vast lands among them. All branches of the Hessian dynasty stem from this territorial division. The Grand Ducal House of Hesse and by Rhine is among the most important German dynasties. Its members form a kaleidoscope of unique human beings: military and religious leaders, peculiar and heroic figures, talented artists and scientists, patrons of the arts and music, visionary and romantic architects, lucky and tragic people, dilettantes more interested in passing by than making a mark. They simply had it all. Their mark, not only in Darmstadt, but also throughout the Rhineland, is palpable in nearly every aspect of the region’s history, arts, letters, music, and architecture.   –//– NUMBER 2: 17% percent of top-5 book orders were for purchases of ... THE OTHER GRAND DUKES: Sons and Grandsons of Russia's Grand Dukes! To order click here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0985460393 Included in this unique work, the Second Volume in a two-volume series, are 18 biographies of Russian grand dukes. These were the junior lines of the Russian Imperial Family at the time of the Revolution in 1917: Vladimirovichi, Pavlovichi, Konstantinovichi, Nikolaevichi and Mikhailovichi. The book is illustrated with exquisite and rare photographs of these intriguing men, their families and descendants. It also includes several family trees. The chapters were authored by some of today's most recognized authors and scholars on the Romanov Dynasty. –//– NUMBER 4: 5% percent of top-5 book orders were for purchases of ... THE FOUR GRACES: Queen Victoria's Hessian Granddaughters! To order click here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/097719616X Eurohistory brings you Ilana Miller's amazing story of Victoria, Elisabeth, Irene and Alix of Hesse and by Rhine, Queen Victoria's Hessian granddaughters, The Four Graces. This excellent book covers the lifespan of these four very tragic sisters. Ms. Miller did extensive research to bring us closer to the four sisters of Hesse. The thrilling narrative is certain to keep the reader grasped as the lives of these women unfold. Handsomely illustrated with unique photos of the Hessian sisters and their descendants, this hardbound book promises to become a "must-read" for anyone interested in European royal history and the Russian Imperial Family. The book also includes several family trees helping the reader place the extensive cast of characters in historical perspective. –//– NUMBER 5: 4% percent of top-5 book orders were for purchases of ... ROYAL COLLRECTIONS III: The Royal House of Bavaria, Volume 1. To order click here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1944207090 The Wittelsbachs ruled over Bavaria and the Rhineland Palatinate for nearly 750 years, this fact made their dynasty one of Europe's longest-ruling families. Theirs is a history of not only sublime exaltation, but also deep and sorrowful loss. They were patrons of the arts and letters, incredible builders, scientists, politicians, visionaries, and maddening personalities. This first volume covers the history of the family from its beginning in the XI century to the life of Crown Prince Rupprecht, who died in 1955. In fact, the book is dedicated to him, "the best king Bavaria never had.” 6300 Kensington AvenueEast Richmond Heights, CA 94805USAEmail: eurohistory@comcast.net or aebeeche@mac.comPhone: 510.236.1730

Princess Mafalda and her three sons

ICYMI:   @Marlene A Eilers Koenig collection I was recently given a lovely gift of several dozen royal photos from the 1930s to the 60s. I cannot say thank you enough for the gifter's kindness.   This photo was taken in the summer of 1937 at the Villa Savoia in Rome and shows Hereditary Princess Mafalda of Hesse (1902-1944), the wife of Hereditary Prince Philipp of Hesse (1896-1980), and their three sons: Prince Moritz (1926-2013), Prince Heinrich (1927-1999) and Prince Otto (1937-1998). Prince Philipp was the third, but the eldest surviving son of Friedrich Karl, Landgrave of Hesse (1868-1940), and Princess Margarete of Prussia (1872-1954). His two older brothers, Princes Friedrich Wilhelm and Maximilian were killed in action in the first world war.   Princess Mafalda was the second daughter of King Vittorio Emanuele III of Italy and Princess Elena of Montenegro. In September 1943, Mafalda was in Bulgaria to attend the funeral of her brother-in-law King Boris III, when she learned that Italy had surrendered to the Allies and her husband, a high Nazi official was under house arrest. She was also told that her four children were safe inside the Vatican. Not long afterward, on September 23, she received a phone call from the German High Command and was told to come to the German embassy to receive a message from her husband. It was all a ruse.  When Princess Mafalda arrived at the embassy, she was arrested for what has been described as subversive activities, and she was taken to Munich, then Berlin before being sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp She died at Buchenwald on August 27, 1944, three days after the Allies bombed an ammunition factory at the camp. She suffered severe burns to one arm. A doctor amputated her arm and she died due to blood loss.   Prince Philipp succeeded his father as Landgrave in 1940. Marie visits Constantine of Greece

ICYMI:   August 24,  1920 Queen Marie of Romania was in Lucerne, Switzerland yesterday where she met with former King Constantine of the Hellenes, according to the New York Times.  She then traveled to Zurich where her eldest daughter, Princess Elisabeth is staying. Constantine told the Associated Press that he had nothing "official to say" concerning reports of a betrothal between his eldest son, George, and Princess Elisabeth of Romania, although he admitted that "events may happen."   Constantine's second son, Alexander was named as king on June 11, 1917, after his father, and other members of the royal were forced into exile.  Although the Allies had first offered the throne to Constantine's brother, Prince George -- he declined as he was not interested in a public role -- but then named Prince Alexander as King, bypassing Crown Prince George, as he was considered too German by the Allies. Princess Elisabeth, 25, has been reported "betrothed to a number of European princesses," but the "rumors" that she has wanted to marry the former Greek Crown Prince have remained persistent.

August 24,  1920 Queen Marie of Romania was in Lucerne, Switzerland yesterday where she met with former King Constantine of the Hellenes, according to the New York Times.

Early reaction from buyers to Eurohistory's The Grand Ducal House of Hesse!

Every time we choose a topic to develop in one of our books, we take a huge risk. Surely, some of our books have been instant hits, others, with more esoteric topics, have taken longer to sell as we introduce these lesser-known royal personages to our avid and knowledgeable readership. When we first mail out copies, we await with great anticipation the initial reports from those who have pre-ordered the book or bought it immediately after it becomes available on AMAZON. We are aware that some reports may be not frat, some will be amazing. In some instances, initial reaction is simply humbling and amazing! Well, the first reports are in for The Grand Ducal House of Hesse – and we are simply delighted with them! "Wow guys...what a treasure...I have all your books and this one really is top three, right up there with Beeche's The Coburgs." – MT, Seattle, WA "I cannot believe how quickly I got the book. I have not been able to put it down. Where and how do you manage to get the photos?" – CB, Santa Clarita, CA "well, thanks for disrupting my work today! I ripped the box open, grabbed a coffee and started flipping through the book. By know Ilana and Art must be the world's experts on the Hessians." MS, Irvine, CA "This must have taken like a long time to put together, well worth the wait, those family trees are so detailed! My one criticism is that I wish it had been even longer book. I lost count of the photos, like 400+. But I still wish you had included more, more, more...hey, maybe a second volume just Hesse-Darmstadt photos? Just saying..." – BZ, Eugene, OR You can purchase the book on AMAZON: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1944207082?ref=myi_title_dp Or by direct order at: Eurohistory & Kensington House Books 6300 Kensington AvenueEast Richmond Heights, CA 94805USAEmail: eurohistory@comcast.net or aebeeche@mac.comPhone: 510.236.1730
